How counselling can help: At some point almost everyone can benefit from counselling. Our clients come from all walks of life. People who seek counselling have one thing in common, and that is that they want to improve the quality of their lives in some way.
Why Seek Counselling: Counselling can benefit individuals at all times in their lives. It is not necessary to have a specific problem to find counselling useful. We all need support for what we are doing in our lives and it is always beneficial to have a safe and confidential environment to discuss our thoughts and feelings with someone we trust. The reasons people come to counselling are as varied as people themselves. For some, counselling offers them a place to work through the effects of distressing or stressful experiences, while others have specific behaviours or habits they would like to change. Many people seek counselling as a way to discover or create meaning in their lives.
Whatever the reason for seeking counselling, clients of Battlefords Counselling & Consulting will find a safe, confidential, non-judgemental and supportive environment.
How to Choose the Right Counsellor: Research shows that the success of therapy is directly related to the relationship that the client has with the therapist. In other words, it is not only the practitioners therapeutic approach that matters but also, it is their ability to build a trusting, healthy relationship with their client(s) that is the key factor in helping people to achieve their desired goals.
When selecting a counsellor to help you achieve your goals do not be afraid to ask questions or request further information about the practitioner. Ask yourself if you think this is someone with whom you could learn to trust and build a relationship with. Would you feel comfortable sharing intimate details of your life with this person? Do you feel safe with this person?
It is also important that the practitioner is a registered with his/her professional body. This means that they are legally accountable to their professional body and abide by ethical guidelines and standards of practice. For example, all Social Workers in Saskatchewan must be registered with the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers (SASW) in order to provide private counselling services.
